The Matinees' second full-length release, Make
The Leap, was conceived as an excuse to have fun collaborating
with friends. The duo — Jaime Borschuk and PF Dumanis —
began with a set of songs that maintained the stripped-down, low-key
instrumentation and pensive, quirky writing style captured in
their 2007 debut, Sleepy Seeds.
They
then paired up with Oakland-based producer/engineer Greg Ashley
(of The Gris Gris) and brought in friends from bands including
The Invisible Cities, Love Is Chemicals, Agent Ribbons, Silver
Jews, Axton Kincaid, and Scrabbel.
The result is a group of independently styled tracks made cohesive
by its signature songwriting and vocal harmonies.
The
Matinees have shared the stage with nationally recognized artists
such as Nyles Lannon, The Moore Brothers, Goh Nakamura, 20 Minute
Loop, Sonny & The Sunsets, and Axton Kincaid.
REVIEWS:
“The SF duo make old style jangly indie pop, and
by 'old style' we mean the girl / boy sung college radio delights
of the early '90s. If you dig Unrest and the many other Mark Robinson
fronted pop combos, you'll probably welcome The Matinees […]
Nice and sweet.”

“In a region with some quality indie pop, the band's debut
definitely stood out, with strong harmonies and endearing songs
created from just two voices and two guitars. Both band members,
PF Dumanis and Jaime Borschuk, come from a history of involvement
in other projects, but there's just an undeniable chemistry to
their work as The Matinees.”
